Reflecting on Valentine's Day, I see its evolution in my life, from a must-celebrate occasion in my 20s and 30s to a different appreciation today. Historically, Valentine's Day, with roots in Roman festivals and Christian martyrs, has morphed into a global celebration of love.
Back in the day I loved grand gestures or dining out, embracing the societal push for extravagant expressions of love. As some refer to it, a commercialized holiday. Now, my perspective has shifted.
While I still cherish the essence of Valentine's Day, the need for opulent dinners or costly gifts has diminished. I've heard genuine affection is in the everyday moments, the small gestures of our daily lives. Such as brewing your partners coffee in the morning, making them smile, taking care of something they've left on the back burner and couldn't get too. Yes, it's the overlooked daily acts of kindness.
Despite its commercial aspects, I can't help but be drawn to the vibrant reds and pinks, the heart decorations, and the candies and chocolates that Valentine's Day brings to stores. It's a day filled with cheerful colors and sweet surprises, blending my love for the color pink and anything chocolate.
How could I not hold a special place in my heart for this holiday?
At a networking event today, I discovered many women share my sentiments about Valentine's Day, showing a growing preference for Galentine's Day. Galentine's Day, celebrated on February 13th, is a day for women to honor their female friendships, emphasizing the bonds between friends. This shift reflects a broader trend of recognizing and celebrating the value of all types of l-o-v-e, not just the romantic kind, in our lives.
What's your favorite aspect of Valentine's Day? Is it the colorful decorations, yummy sweets, heartfelt moments, celebrating Galentine's with friends, or perhaps you prefer not to celebrate?
